About

Hello and welcome to the IAEA Reactor team webpage!

This project was focused on the nuclear reactor fleet trends in the United States. We want people to see how the nuclear power industry has grown and spread across the nation throughout
the years. There was a steady growth in nuclear power until about the 90’s, and it has since remained fairly stagnant; so although there has been an increase in the production
of electricity, there has not been an equal or proportionate increase in electricity produced by nuclear power. Most of the reactors in the US were deployed in the 70s
and 80s, and only handful have been deployed in the past decade.

The final design incorporates six visualizations:
1. A map showing the approximate location of all reactors in the US to-date that categorizes reactors as operational, decommissioned, not-yet commissioned, commissioned in a selected year.
2. Area chart showing nuclear power produced and total power produced per year in the United States with a pie chart in the upper left corner showing year specific proportions of nuclear vs non-nuclear power.
3. A timeline of power reactors in the United States (selector available for total operational, decommissioned, commissioned in each year)
4. A table that gives specific power reactor information by year
5. Bar chart showing the number of operational, commissioned, or decommissioned reactors by state for a selected year.
6. A table that gives specific power reactor information by state.

Make sure to check out all of the interactions available to you including reactor specific tooltips on the map (mouse hovering), year selection in the timeline (bar-clicking), and state selection in the state bar chart (bar-clicking)!
